January 4th - Ankeny, Iowa

As guessed yesterday by my wife, the first stop on our journey around Iowa starts pretty close to home in Ankeny. This commuter town north of Des Moines has grown significantly over the last few years and as of the 2005 special census is the third largest city in Iowa.

Here are some of the shots we are thinking of capturing during our trip:

Well hopefully better late than never, here is the report and photos from our trip to Ankeny! Unfortunately both time and the weather were against us, but we both had a great time driving around town for a couple of hours in the afternoon taking pictures. We ended up with 13 usable shots from about 150 taken, and these have now been uploaded to Wikimedia Commons . In turn, 5 have been added to the Ankeny article on Wikipedia . Below are a couple of my favourites. Look for some hints on our next destination later in the week!

February 8th - Cambridge, Iowa

Our destination this week is Cambridge, Iowa ! This city of around 819 (as of 2000) was established in 1856 and shares its name with two famous college towns; Cambridge in England with the second oldest University in the English speaking world, and Cambridge, Massachusetts which is home to Harvard and MIT. While the Iowa version of Cambridge cannot claim to have it's own college it is only a few miles away from Ames, home to Iowa State University. If I was really reaching for a reason to visit I could also say that Cambridge is the name of a song by one of my favourite bands, Motion City Soundtrack . But I'm not so I won't :-). August 16th - Nevada, Iowa

While summer may now be officially over (especially weather-wise) we still have one more installment in our series documenting some of the cities along U.S. Route 30 in Iowa. Our last destination is Nevada, Iowa ! Like its central Iowa counterpart Madrid, which we also visited back in March , the pronunciation of Nevada is different from that of the well-known Western U.S. state . The county seat of Story County with almost 6,700 residents, Nevada proudly identifies itself as the "26th best small town in America"! 9 shots were uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, with two added to the updated article on Wikipedia.
