February 8th - Cambridge, Iowa

Image
An earlier than usual start this Sunday necessitated a stop for coffee before heading off to Cambridge, this week's destination. As with all of our previous destinations we were not disappointed by what we found there! Even though we have only been working on this project for just over a month I have been impressed by and have a greater appreciation for the strength, vibrancy and character demonstrated by smaller communities in Iowa, especially in this era of urbanization. Thanks are due to the Cambridge Historical Association , not only for providing suggestions on photos to take (both the mural and memorial were fantastic and hopefully we did them justice with our shots) but for also mentioning us in their latest blog post! 10 shots were uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, with 3 added to the updated article on Wikipedia. Here are a couple of my favourites: Links Cambridge, Iowa pictures on Wikimedia Commons Updated Cambridge, Iowa article on Wikipedia Cambridge Historical Asso...

February 8th - Cambridge, Iowa

Our destination this week is Cambridge, Iowa ! This city of around 819 (as of 2000) was established in 1856 and shares its name with two famous college towns; Cambridge in England with the second oldest University in the English speaking world, and Cambridge, Massachusetts which is home to Harvard and MIT. While the Iowa version of Cambridge cannot claim to have it's own college it is only a few miles away from Ames, home to Iowa State University. If I was really reaching for a reason to visit I could also say that Cambridge is the name of a song by one of my favourite bands, Motion City Soundtrack . But I'm not so I won't :-).
